Quotes about big punchers

Some quotes about big punchers:
Earnie Shavers hit me, man, and knocked me face down on the canvas. I was in the land of make believe. I heard saxophones, trombones. I saw little blue rats, and they were all smoking cigars and drinking whisky. James Tillis
Jack Dempsey hits like an epileptic pile-driver. Harry Witwert
Larry Holmes doesn't hit as hard as Earnie Shavers. Nobody hits like Shavers. If anybody hit harder than Shavers, I'd shoot him. Tex Cobb
On being hit by Joe Louis - It's like someone jammed an electric light bulb in your face, and busted it. I thought half my head was blowed off... When he knocked me down I could have stayed there for three weeks. James Braddock
Rocky Marciano didn't know enough boxing to know what a feint was. He never tried to out-guess you. He just kept trying to knock your brains out. Archie Moore

Mental aspect in boxing

Fighter is in shape when he is mentally and physically prepared. In boxing mentally is more important, why? For example when fighter is in great shape.he running great,he spares 10 rounds without tiring he doe's everything great in training preparation. And than in fight he gassed out in two rounds.Maybe he get scared, maybe he forgot bread or become to excited or too tense. These factors are mentally factors. In some interview famous trainer Kevin Rooney said that boxing is 80% mentally and 20% physically. It was interview about Mike Tyson fight with Kevin McBride. He said that Tyson wasn't too old,tat he had tools to be world champion again but he just didn't had his mind in boxing.George Foreman became heavyweight champion in his mind he believe in himself and what is very important he never get tired in his second career when he was old and overweight. He was relaxed and mentally stable. Before fight there is mentally games between boxers. In many situations boxer win before fight started.Mike Tyson won many fights that way because his opponents was too scared from him.Earnie Shavers describes in his book how he played mentally games in prefight conference. He always said something to his opponents in that way that opponent start worries about his words till the fight.Archie Moore said that he liked to watch opponent in his eyes before fight to break him mentally. There are many more examples. Also good boxing trainers knows how motivate their fighters. There is special kind of energy between fighter and trainer.I know from my own case when is somebody in your corner who truly believe in you you can be winner and sometimes if the wrong person are in your corner you can lose fight from worse fighter. At the end we came to conclusion that mentally is even more important than phisically.Of course this doesn't mean that you don't have to train hard for the fight. You must give all your best in training and be strong mentally. This are  the qualities of great fighters.

Mike Tyson in his prime one of the greatest or not

Mike Tyson, the youngest heavyweight champion,50-6 44KO.There is the question, does he belongs with the best fighters ever,in top 5,top 10 heavyweights ever. His critics are saying that he fought in weak era of heavyweights, that he lasted short and had some questionabled performance. In my opinion in his prime he was closest to unbeatable of all heavyweight champions.I considere Tysons prime from 1986 to 1989,fight with Bruno. He changed trainer Kevin Rooney and after that he just wasn't same fighter.I will compare his prime to another all time greats Muhhamad Ali,Joe Louis,Rocky Marciano,Larry Holmes...And all of them had harder fight than Tyson.Ali had flored vs Cooper, had close fight with Doug Jones,Joe Louis flored vs Jim Braddock,Tonny Galento and had difcult times with Billy Conn,Rocky Marciano flored vs Joe Walcott and Archie Moore and had controversional decision vs Roland LaStarza,Larry Holmes flored vs Earnie Shavers,Renaldo Snipes has hard fight with Ken Norton.I cant remember heavyweight champion who was more dominant at three years than Mike Tyson. My conclusion is that Mike Tyson in prime was top 3 heavyweights ever.Of course this is his prime which lated short and when i considered whole Tyson career and other all time greats heavyweights he is in top 10.

Agging warriors

This time I wil talk about agging fighters.Big number of fighters just don't know when is over, when age caught up whit them. But also there are many old fighters who knows that they still can be at their best, and they are right.People says that they are too old, they can not compete with young lions but they proved them wrong. But after they proved them wrong they again say same thing, that boxing is young men sport.Ok like I said in some situations fighters just doesn't know when is time to stop but in some other journalists,"boxing experts" and other are wrong.Probably fighter deep in himself knows when he is done. There are many examples, expeccialy today, that you can be great boxer if you are over 40 and can compete at highest level with anybody.Bernard Hopkins,Archie Moore,George Forteman,Antonio Tarver,Glen Johnson,Vitali Klitschko. The most important thing for fighter is soul and belief in yourself.People who said that somebody is too old for fighter if he is 36,37,38 are wrong. Some fighters are old at 30 and some are great at 40.There is not two same peoples on the earth, two same fingerprints, two same eyes...Some people have gray hair at 20 some dont at 40,some look old at 35 some dont at 45.There is no rules for this things.Age is just number. If you belief in yourself everything is possible and dont give up of your dreams.

Valuev on Klitscho vs Povetkin

Valuev said:"The more I do not see anyone. Alexander can adequately respond to Vladimir, but that he would have to revise some things, "- said Valuev. According to a boxer to defeat Klitschko Povetkin must be made to move around the ring.
"We need to attack from different flanks is the only chance to break through his defense: get close and strike. Other options I do not see, because the difference in growth would not be on hand to Sasha, "- said Valuev. As you know, August 27 Povetkin will fight against Ruslan Chagaev.I think that he is right. To bad that he doesn't have Teddy Atlas in his corner.I know Atlas has disadvateges but he is expert for style which can beat Klitsckos and Povetkin has tools to do it.He has speed, power, timing and I think that he can take a punch. He reminds me little on Joe Louis.Don't get me wrong Joe Louis is the probably best heavyweight ever but Povetkin is very good fighter. My prediction on upcoming match Povetkin-Chagaev is win for Powetkin.Chagaev is past his best,he is not old but he had hepatitis ans seems never recovered from that. The main problem for Povetkin vs Klitschko will be motivation and determination. He must be ready to die in ring and never give up.It is fact obout I wrote one post earlier about this thing but you never knows.I know that Povetkin can't be fighter like Joe Frazier or Mike Tyson always at attack but he must be aggressive vs Klitschkos ecspecially Wladimir.Like Valuev said get inside and throw hard punches, combinations.Post coments please.

Today heavyweights

Hello everyone.I know that this is the old theme about today heavyweight vs all time great. But i will not compare between them who was better or who would win.I will talk about passion.I just watched Fury-Chisora fight. And it was preety good fight. But for me there was no  excuse for bad phisical contition of Chisora. These comparition with pasr fighters is big fail of today fighters. This was in one way fight for challenging one of the Klitschkos.I don't remeber that any single contender in 50s,60s,70s,80s came not prepared for fight like that.Another example for me is Klitschko vs Haye. Two good havyweight with great phisical tools and good prepared but most of the fight in safe mode. After fight they were not tired and not because of their good phisical condition but because as i mentioned fighting in a safe mode.Compare this fight to Ali vs Frazier.Their gave their best, they was prepared to die in ring. After fight they were totaly exhausted.I know that life has changed today than 40,50 years ago and people are not ready to that kind of sacrifice but i also know that they receiving big paydays today.Don't get me wrong ,I love watching boxing and i admire all fighters but I just don't see passion of fighters like before. They just don't have that pride and dignity.
